We are in the process of transforming our current 30,000 square foot facility into 116,500 square feet – approximately four times larger!  Not only will this expansion allow us to increase our aircraft production and service capabilities, it will also allow our guests to enjoy a brand new FBO featuring a deluxe lounge with café nook, private offices, pilot lounge & TV room, snooze room, as well as private restrooms with showers. Located just above our new FBO will be the home of WACO Kitchen - a unique dining experience overlooking the airport runway. With entrances from both the road and ramp, WACO Kitchen will be open to all. Along with catering services, this upscale and modern space will also be available for private events.

WACO KITCHEN

Sous Chef & Junior Chef

 

WACO Aircraft in Battle Creek, MI has two unique Chef opportunities available for WACO Kitchen - a newly constructed restaurant overlooking the runway at Battle Creek Executive Airport.  

 

The vision of WACO Kitchen is to provide value to surrounding communities, businesses, and transient pilots - by offering a unique venue with a nutritious fusion of American & European cuisine. This upscale and modern space will accommodate up to 98 individuals and will also be utilized for catering and private events. 

 

Building occupancy is scheduled for mid-September 2020, with a grand opening planned 6-8 weeks post-occupancy. Join our growing team as Sous Chef or Junior Chef - These positions are open immediately!

 

Sous Chef Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Leads kitchen team in Head Chef's absence

• Provides guidance to junior kitchen staff members, including, but not limited, to line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating

• Oversees and organizes kitchen stock and ingredients

• Ensures a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifies all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance

• Keeps cooking stations stocked, especially before and during prime operation hours

• Trains new kitchen employees to restaurant and kitchen standards

• Manages food and product ordering by keeping detailed records and minimizes waste, plus works with existing systems to improve waste reduction and manage budgetary concerns

• Supervises all food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and restaurant standards

• Works with head chef to maintain kitchen organization, staff ability, and training opportunities

• Verifies that food storage units all meet standards and are consistently well-managed

• Assists head chef with menu creation

• Coordinates with restaurant management team on supply ordering, budget, and kitchen efficiency and staffing

 

Sous Chef Requirements and Qualifications

 

• Associate degree in culinary arts preferred

• 3+ years of experience as a sous chef, in addition to experience as a line cook/ junior chef, preferably with abroad/overseas experience

• Interest in or partial knowledge of nutrition and health benefits of certain food groups, organic foods, superfoods, plant-based diets and dietary trends

• Awareness of and interest in international cuisine and familiar with international cooking standards

• Ability to remain productive and multitask under pressure

• Kitchen-sustainability and food-waste-prevention awareness

• Strong attention to detail and aesthetic awareness (food plating, garnishing, presentation)

• Creative and initiative mindset

• Positive, solution-based outlook & familiar with no-blame culture

 

Junior Chef Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Preparing and cooking ingredients as instructed and assisting in all sections of the kitchen as directed by the Head Chef or Sous Chef

• Assisting and monitoring stock, including stock rotation, restocking and general MEP

• Ensuring minimum kitchen wastage, supporting anti-food waste measurements

• Keeping all working areas clean and tidy while ensuring no cross contamination

• Learning skills and recipes from other members of the kitchen staff and applying them

• Complying with all company policies and procedures and all statutory regulations and food hygiene policies

• Creatively supporting the kitchen team with menu ideas and food plating skills

• Any other reasonable duties, required by the Head Chef or Sous Chef, such as sanitation of work areas or other entry-level tasks may be required

• Occasional support of the Casserolier (dishwasher)

 

Junior Chef Requirements and Qualifications

 

• High school diploma or GED, associate degree in culinary arts preferred

• Significant experience as a junior chef, preferably with abroad/overseas experience

Composites Engineer

We design the structures, aerodynamics, power systems and controls to give our aircraft the performance worthy of our mantra “Unlimited Attitude”. The engineering team at WACO is small, nimble, and cross-functional, offering each team member broad exposure to aircraft systems and manufacturing.  

 

WACO is seeking a motivated and experienced Composites Engineer to join our growing team.  As a Composites Engineer at WACO you will be responsible for developing the processes, procedures, tooling and equipment for a new all-composite aircraft. 

As WACO Aircraft is a small company with a diverse range of manufacturing processes, candidates are expected to be flexible and comfortable working on multiple assignments with varying subject matter.  This includes creating a prototype all the way from the design stage to physically building the hardware and systems.  Candidates should be comfortable working with both hand tools and power tools.  

 

Composites Engineer Experience & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience designing, fabricating and manufacturing composite structures and tools

  • Experience in layup, shape forming and machining composite prototypes and products

  • Experience with CAD and technical drawings including composite layup drawings

  • Experience in aviation/aerospace is helpful but not required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant engineering field is preferred

Electrical / Avionics Engineer

WACO is seeking a motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing team.  As an Avionics/Electrical Engineer at WACO you will be responsible for the design of electrical and avionics systems on our exciting new aircraft platforms as well as the continued quality and performance of those systems on our existing airframes.

  • Ability to design and troubleshoot vehicle electrical systems

  • Proficient in computer aided design applications

  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics

  • Experience with Project Management 

  • Experience with Electric Vehicles preferred but not required

  • Team player, self-motivated and a quick learner

  • Aviation/avionics experience preferred but not required
